- Today, August 24, we want to wish a very happy 31st birthday to Rupert Grint. He was cast as Ron Weasley at the age of 11, without having much acting experience before. Ever since then, he starred in all eight Harry Potter movies until 2011 and we're more than happy about this and would like to thank Rupert for bringing smiles and laughter to us by portraying Ron so perfectly.

Happy 54th birthday, J.K. Rowling!

On behalf of Harry Potter Web, we would like to wish the wonderful J.K. Rowling a very happy and special 54th birthday. We would also love to use this occasion to (again!) thank you for everything you’ve done and provided us with. For filling our lives with magic and letting us escape to another world – the wizarding world of Harry Potter, Hogwarts, Hogsmeade and Co.

In addition to the seven Harry Potter novels, the Fantastic Beasts series the eight movies, she’s created a community, a FAMILY, of muggles and wizards who’ve been connecting for decades, since 1997. Thanks for everything!

On her Twitter account, J.K. Rowling, the creator of the Harry Potter saga, shared some of the Harry Potter based baby Halloween costumes.

While ‘having to work’, J.K. Rowling came across people from all over the world, who sent the author pics of their creative Harry Potter based costume on Twitter. The author could barely contain herself, commenting: “Too much cuteness. This is unacceptable when I’m trying to work.”

A lot more examples can be seen on her official Twitter account.

A new Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald footage has been released, which hints at the importance of Credence Barebone (played by Ezra Miller) in the movies.

In the footage above, J.K. Rowling reveals that the reason why everyone is heading to Paris in the movies is Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller). “For Credence, the big question now is—”, she says. Ezra himself reveals that Credence wants to know who he is.

“Credence may not know who he is yet but he needs to be found,” Dumbledore (Jude Law) tells Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne).

“The path is laid and he’s following it, the trail that will lead him to me,” Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) intones.

Actor Johnny Depp (Gellert Grindelwald) speaks out on his casting of Grindelwald for the first time and defends J.K. Rowling.

After being criticized for the casting of Gellert Grindelwald in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald movie, Johnny Depp (Grindelwald) finally spoke out to Entertainment Weekly. A few months ago, the creator of the Harry Potter universe, J.K. Rowling had defended Johnny’s casting as Grindeldwald, and just now it had been Johnny’s turn to defend J.K. Rowling’s comments about his casting.

J.K. had had justified Johnny’s inclusion in the film following allegations of physical abuse made by Johnny’s ex-wife Amber Heard. She issued a statement in December 2017 saying: “The film-makers and I are not only comfortable sticking with our original casting, but [are] genuinely happy to have Johnny playing a major character in the movies.”

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly to promote the film, Johnny said:

“I’ll be honest … I felt bad for J.K. having to field all these various feelings from people out there … But ultimately, there is real controversy. The fact remains I was falsely accused … J.K. has seen the evidence and therefore knows I was falsely accused, and that’s why she has publicly supported me.”

Lumos Foundation USA held a special fundraising event in New York City on 22 and 23 September 2018 where J.K. Rowling talked to actress Whoopi Goldberg.

Lumos Foundation USA was delighted to welcome more than 350 guests to a special fundraising event held in New York City on 22 and 23 September 2018. The highlight of Saturday’s gala dinner was a conversation between Lumos Founder and President J.K. Rowling and Emmy, Oscar and Tony-award winning star Whoopi Goldberg. During the conversation, J.K. Rowling described the trauma faced by the millions of children around the world who are separated from their families and the importance of raising awareness of the 8 million children trapped in orphanages.

“There is a vast humanitarian crisis that affects children overwhelmingly, which most of us are totally unaware of,” J.K.Rowling said. They went on to discuss how Lumos works to reunite families and help some of the most disadvantaged children around the world, highlighting the organisation’s progress in ending the harmful institutionalisation of children. They were later joined on stage by Lumos CEO Georgette Mulheir, who praised the generosity of Americans but called on them not to donate to or volunteer at orphanages, and to redirect funds instead to support networks in the local community to help families stay together. Rounding out the night was a preview of an upcoming HBO documentary on the issue, due to premiere in late 2019, and a special musical performance by Jamie Parker, star of the Tony-Award winning play on Broadway, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, accompanied on piano by the most prolific and honoured female theatrical composer in history, Jeanine Tesori.

The gala weekend continued on the Sunday when guests were treated to a benefit performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two at the Lyric Theatre on Broadway, with a surprise introduction by J.K. Rowling. Delighted fans in the audience heard our Founder and President talk about the importance of family, how this is a central theme of the play, and the inspiration behind her founding Lumos – the story of a young boy, trapped in an institution in the Czech Republic, whose image she first saw in a newspaper in 2004.

Author J.K. Rowling confirmed the theory about Hermione pronouncing her name in the fourth book to prevent her readers from continuing to mispronounce it.

“It’s LeviOsa, not LeviosAR!” – Hermione Granger’s character is well known for correcting a pronunciation or two, such as one of her most iconic moments where she schooled Ron Weasley on the levitation spell. It was not only characters in the books that mispronounced spells or even names, but also fans and readers of the book series. Many readers were saying Hermione all sorts of ways before the fourth book Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was released and J.K. Rowling included a passage about the correct pronunciation. It looks like J.K. Rowling has a bit of Hermione in her, as the author just confirmed that she added it in to avoid any more confusion for readers.

A tweet from a fan brought up a long-time theory regarding a passage in the fourth book where Viktor Krum kept pronouncing her name as Her-my-own. The heroine corrected him and fans everywhere, by announcing it as Her-my-oh-nee slowly and clearly.

J.K. Rowling responded to the fan’s tweet, confirming that her intentions here were to school readers on how to say her name above anything else.
